2012 Jubilus Young Composers Competition

2012 Young Composers Competition

The Competition:

In early 2012A Musical Offering sponsored an opportunity for high school composers to work with Michael Johanson, artist-in-residence at the 2012 Jubilus Music Festival. Dr. Johanson, professor of composition at Lewis & Clark College, Oregon, has extensive experience as a composer, performer, and educator. Learn more at michaeljohanson.com.

AMO elicited a call for scores of chamber or choral music. The pieces had to be from 1-10 minutes in length, for any combination of the following voice parts and instrumentation:

  • Up to four vocal parts (SABT and/or children’s treble)
  • Up to four instruments

The Winner:

David’s quartet for French horn, “Taking Flight Fanfare,” won the competition and will be performed by Jubilus Ensemble musicians at the 2013 Jubilus Festival.
