Cheryl Poe is a retired music educator who taught for over two decades in the Alachua County — fifteen of those years as music teacher at J. J. Finley Elementary School. She continues to participate in many volunteer organizations in the community that advocate for music education, including being a founding member of the Friends of Alachua County Public School Elementary Arts Programs Fund, otherwise known as “Fan of the Arts.”
Cheryl earned her B.A. in 1965 from Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado and her M.M.Ed. in 1980 from the University of Portland in Oregon. She earned Levels I, II, & III Orff Certification from Western Carolina University, Cullowee, North Carolina. During Cheryl’s 30+ years of teaching in Colorado, California, North Dakota, Oregon, and Florida, she taught instrumental, vocal, and general music at all levels from kindergarten through college.
2005-06 Cheryl was awarded “Music Educator of the Year” by the Florida Music Educators Association. From 2001-2003 she was president of the Florida Elementary Music Educators Association and served as District 5 director from 1996-2001.
